Announcing our $22M Series B
We founded Opal out of our own frustration with the lack visibility and understanding of user access behavior across the board. We saw firsthand how lack of good infrastructure and mundane issues like overblown access result in totally avoidable and expensive cascading failures, from the smallest startups to biggest agencies. While best-in-class security engineering teams understand this and build internally to the best of their abilities, it’s a lot to scale and maintain even for the largest enterprises.
As builders, we’re very aware of what a huge lift it is to solve this. It isn’t a niche product or a workflow—it’s a massive and intersectional problem, and many companies with more resources have given it a run before us. Many are still trying. And the ground keeps shifting! As attackers become more sophisticated, governments pass new cybersecurity regulations, and teams introduce more identities across increased environments, the need for organizations to operationalize modern security strategies across their whole ecosystem becomes more pressing. Our customers tell us that we’ve helped them get a handle on existing overblown access and mitigate the risk associated with that access. We’ve also allowed them to replace legacy, shelf-ware services across the ad-hoc identity stack— Identity Access Management (IAM), Privileged Access Management (PAM), Identity Governance (IGA), Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR), and Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management (CIEM). When we launched Opal, we took a bet that large organizations need a unified, holistic solution to manage their identities and access pathways end-to-end, and we’re proud to see our customers embrace and validate this approach.
In that spirit, I’m excited to announce that Opal has raised a $22 million round of financing led by Battery Ventures, along with participation from our existing investors Greylock and Box Group. We’re also excited to also introduce a few more angels to the Opal family — Caleb Sima and Zeynep Inanoglu. We’re using this funding to invest in growing our team (we’re hiring!) and deepen our product to achieve our mission of securing every identity and access path. There’s a lot of work to do, we need smart, driven people who are bought into the mission, and are excited to help us build the future.
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey, especially our users who’ve been with us every step of the way.

Umaimah
